What's Up Wednesday

"What's Up Wednesday" is run by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk, and is an awesome weekly bloghop that gives readers and writers a great venue to keep in touch through the magical world of blogs. Come hop with us!*

What I'm Reading

Here Be Monsters! It reminds me very much of Dahl, but longer. I love long books.

What I'm Writing

Sent off the first few chapters of the MG to Fabulous Agent Natalie. The next few chapters are getting rewritten from the ground up. I'll be jumping in on that tomorrow :D

What Inspires Me Right Now

Ugh. I've been in a slump. Cooking, for starters. I've been slowly building up my repertoire, partly for healthy eating reasons and partly because I just think we should know how to make food. I managed to get way into adulthood without knowing how to make much of anything that didn't come from a package. So it's been an adventure of trying new things, which I should add I usually eat myself, as my son is very picky ( he eats lots of healthy foods, just not new healthy foods.) and my husband eats soda, bacon, cinnamon buns, cinnamon bears, coffee and for the past month, Cadbury creme eggs in that order. You would think he would be obese on that diet, or at least chubby, but no. He's built like a jockey, and spends most of his day at the computer editing films. I spend most of my day at the computer or sewing machine, and unless I count every calorie and get up and run around for 45 minutes a day, I quickly start looking like the Stay Pufft marshmallow man.

What Else I'm Up To

Spring Cleaning! 90% of the flower beds are raked out and trimmed. my closet is cleaned out, and it looks like its about time to repaint the kitchen and living room.

What I'm Reading

Nothing at the moment. Waiting for books to arrive in the mail. (If we had a local indie, I would shop there, but I'm in the sticks, and I love the internet. It sends books to me. How perfect is that!)

What I'm Writing

Still revising the MG. The goal was to get to the halfway point last week. I didn't make it. I'm still carefully making my way through the chapter right before the halfway point. It's a Big Reveal area that needs to be super awesome, and not become an info dump. So care must be taken. Much, much care.

What Inspires Me Right Now

Adding miles to the running shoes. We had a few days of lovely, glorious, sunshiny weather with blue skies and real hopping, chirping robins, and then... Snow. Yes, in the third week of April, I went jogging in a snowstorm. Boo. But, after way too many weeks of not keeping up with the running, I'm back out there, getting hitting the pavement and setting up the roster of fun runs I plan to do over the summer. I seriously love those goofy theme 5ks. Color Run, Electric Run, Foam Fest, you name it, I want in.

What Else I'm Up To

Just trying to focus on writing. I want this revision done before school lets out, because with the kid home, and Mr. Cate and I both working from home most of the week (he leaves occasionally, I'm pretty much bolted to my office chair) these are my last few weeks of true peace and quiet until next fall. These are the days I can read, write and sew at my own pace.

Now I know I'm getting old, but man, these weeks are flying by. We're 1/4 of the way through the year already!!

What I'm Reading

Still reading Fablehaven, which I started last week, and hope to finish this week.

What I'm Writing

Still revising the MG. Went back over the brand new chapter 4 (which replaced the previous ch4&5) and reworked the new passages. Then I moved on through chapter 7, which is 22k of about 64k total. Goal for the rest of this week is to get to the halfway point. Then the rest of April will be reserved for the last half, which needs a lot more work than the first half did.

What Inspires Me Right Now

Summer is coming! I'm generally more of a winter person, but I want to get digging in my flowerbeds already! Nearly all the snow is gone now. The rest should be going away today. I can tell there are spring shoots under the fall mulch, but we're also probably going to get a few more frosts before we hit *real* spring, and I want to keep my baby plants protected. But very soon, sometime next week perhaps, I'll get to start raking and pruning and we'll see some green again.

What Else I'm Up To

Well, I've had a steady stream of custom orders to fill from my etsy shop, and a line of new spring dolls and animals I've been working on in between the custom orders and writing time and extra studying with sonny, who hasn't been super great about proofreading his homework the past quarter ;)
In blogging news, I'm passing on A to Z April this year. With all the editing and business running, and the fact that I nearly forget to do this Wednesday post once a week (yeah, I know) I think it's best if I save my writing power for my manuscript, and get that polished up before school gets out.

In family news, I have the house all to myself today for the first time in a while! Mr. Cate, the film maker of the house, has a new gig filming and editing sky diving videos for the summer. (no, he is not a sky diver. Yes, he is a bit of a daredevil.) Today he's at the airport for his first full day working on promotional videos and making marketing materials for the company. For the past few months, while he's been transitioning from part time to full time editing work, he's been home. With me. All day. Every day. And yes, I love the guy, but after six months of spending nearly 24 hours with a person, and it's nice to have some space and some quiet. And I know the dinner conversation is going to be very interesting.
